Breaking the Barriers and nonprofit, Hammer & Chisel, collaborate on service projects and service trips!
Hammer & Chisel (HC) is a nonprofit based in MA that works locally and internationally, specifically Cape Town, South Africa. Their goal is to create dynamic change through education and compassion. HC believes in inspiring youth to become leaders (“dragons”) who champion causes they’re passionate about in their communities.
BTB members went on a service trip to Cape Town, South Africa with Hammer & Chisel from February 15 to February 27, 2018! Click HERE to watch a video about our trip!
It was a transformative experience that changed the lives of both the participants and South Africans they served. Students who went on the trip are now part of HC’s Strike Action Network, a group of young leaders who are passionate about creating tangible change in their community.
BTB members participate in Project 133, a project created by HC’s Strike Action Network. ‘Project 133: Saving 133 Billion Pounds of Food‘ seeks to achieve a 3-fold purpose of feeding the hungry, preventing food waste, and helping the environment.
40% of all edible food in the United States is thrown away, while 1 in 6 children live in food insecure homes. Decomposing food also produces greenhouse gases which contribute to global warming. Project 133 bridges the gap by partnering local restaurants and homeless shelters. We transport excess food from restaurants to homeless shelters every Tuesday afternoon in Ashland and Arlington!
